The WHAM model airfield consists of four major parts: runway, pits, pilot stations and the frequency board. Each part works in harmony to provide safe operations for everyone's flying enjoyment. At WHAM, safety is our highest priority! WHAM has a set of WHAM Airfield Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). The Airfield SOP's are available for download from our website. The SOP's can also be read on this site. A 24"x36" sign at the east pit, reminds flyers about safety, how the airfield operates and what is generally expected of each flyer.
These hours of operations apply to ALL internal combustion engines and any loud EDF's or small propeller electric planes. Please use common sense when flying the smaller electric planes. Many can produce extremely high decibel ratings.

MAAC or AMA membership is required to fly at WHAM. MAAC safety code will be followed
Frequency board will be in use at all times. Your frequency pin must be labeled with your name and channel #.
Use caution when running engines in pits, ensure your prop arc is clear of people.
Prevailing wind will determine the active runway and pilot station.
When on the flight line - announce your "takeoffs", landings, & dead sticks, communicate your intentions.
Retrieve downed models when safe to do so, do not fly over people retrieving models.
No smoking in the pits, place butts and garbage in garbage cans.
Keep driveway clear of vehicles.
At 4:00pm, if the field is dry, the west pit will open and the east pit will close.
After 4:00pm, all vehicles shall proceed to the west side, yield for aircraft traffic when passing the runways.
April 2003 update - Access to the West Pit is via the new crossing at the creek and along the north Berm, pilots shall fly away from approaching vehicles.
For safe west pit operations, all vehicles and persons must be on the west side.
Stand up and use the west pit frequency board. Lay down the west pit frequency board at the end of the day.
Wet field means no access to the west; thus the west pit will not be active. Stay on the east side when wet!
